Therefore, measures are being undertaken to re-organize and strengthen Agricultural Sector in an attempt to achieve food self-sufficiency.There has been a number of prohibiting factors in respect of the storage of food crops (in this case maize and groundnuts) which have been affected with Aflatoxin Contamination. In this regard, the United Republic of Tanzania, under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture, has requested and received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) in the form of a financing towards the cost of Tanzania Initiative for Preventing Aflatoxin Contamination (TANIPAC) Project. The project intends to design and construct 14 warehouses, 12 of which are in Mainland Tanzania (LOT 1) located on 10 different regions and 2 of which are Located in Zanzibar (LOT 2). All warehouses which will be designed are expected to have the storage capacity of not less than 1500 Tones and may go beyond 2000 tones depending on grain production in specific regions, in contrary to the provisions provided in the TOR which highlight the capacity of about 500 to 600 tones for the sites in Zanzibar and between 1500 to 2000 tones for sites in Tanzania mainland.
